#26 Vibe Coding Gets You 80% There. Here's What Happens Next.
Build With Intention ~ The risk when building with AI.
Hello Reader, Last week, I shared The Founder's AI Playbook ~ a framework for building AI-native startups. The response was clear: we are ready to build differently. But there's a risk I didn't name directly. And it's worth this newsletter. IntentionVibe coding is real. And it works. You describe what you want. AI writes the code. You ship in hours what used to take weeks. 80% of the way there. Fast. But here's what I've learned That last 20% is where products break. Where security fails. Where startups quietly die. Not because the AI was wrong. But because it was locally correct and globally wrong. InsightThere's a difference between code that runs and code that's right. AI can write code that passes tests, compiles cleanly, and does exactly what you asked. But it doesn't know if the architecture will scale. It doesn't know if the auth flow has a gap. It doesn't know if you're building on a flawed premise. Andrej Karpathy, the one who coined "vibe coding" said it himself: "You can outsource your thinking. But you can't outsource your understanding." That's the line. Vibe coding raised the floor. Anyone can build now. That's genuinely good. But intent is rare. Knowing what to build. Knowing why it matters. Knowing when the AI is confidently wrong. The playbook I shared last week is about becoming an orchestrator. This week is the warning that comes with it: orchestrating without understanding is just vibe coding with better tools. ActionIf you're building with AI ~ and you should be ~ ask yourself: Do I understand what the AI just built? Or am I just relieved it works? Speed matters, but understanding what we shipped matters more. If you missed it last week, Here's The Founder's AI Playbook ~ a stage-by-stage framework for building an AI-native startup. A NoteIf you're building AI-native and want help thinking through architecture, trade-offs, and what to watch for ~ I'm opening a few coaching spots. What are you building with intention this week? Build well. |
